I have used an undersink RO system for 20 years to filter out the bad stuff. Over time prices have come down and installations have become simpler. This system has a great balance of low price vs. ease of filter changes, which in more expensive types is very simple but higher cost.We live in Florida in a rental house and the drinking water has so much chlorine that it burns your nostrils just at the smell of it coming out of the tap. Definitely not drinkable in my opinion. My husband bought this unit based on a similar product we had in NY that we had sulfur tasting water for. Took my husband about an hour to install and unless your a certified plum pier or really handy I recommend a professional install for this unit. My husband is plumber certified so it was simple for him to install. There is not trace of chlorine smell or taste in the water out of this tap it is amazing. We use this water for our dogs as well since the regular tap water killed one of my dogs. Apparently even a ton of chlorine does kill parasites in the water but actually makes some of them thrive. Had this filtered water tested before we drank it to make sure it was as advertised because I couldn’t go through making anyone in my house sick or another dog die. The sample tested had a clean slate I was shocked at how much this filter purified. I use this filter for everything, making ice, water for cooking and watering my plants. If they made one big enough to attach to my hot water heater I’d buy one in a second. We use it so much we purchased extra filters because we know we are using it more than was intended but well worth the price to help keep people and puppies healthy.I watched an install video while doing the install, it really simplified the install.I installed the Home Master TM Undersink Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System in Feb 2016, a month ago). When I turned it on the first time, it was leaking from every connection. The RO membrane (the blue cylinder) was leaking especially heavily. I turned it off and came back to it the next day, turned it on again and it leaked. I thought about just returning it for a refund, but the water tasted so great, I decided to tighten the connections myself.The leaks from all the other connections stopped without too much effort on my part. The RO membrane component was tougher. I don't know if I should have done this, but I took out my big wrenches and tightened and tightened and REALLY tightened. Finally, the leak stopped from the RO unit too.Truth told, I did not watch the installation video, since it was fairly simple readingthe manual, but maybe there was a different way to stop the leak than what I did. Maybe it stops on it's own due to its own internal pressure and/or time? I'm going to assume operator error.In any event, Total Dissolved Solids coming unfiltered from my tap were about 180 ppm. My Brita activated charcoal filter only reduces the TDS to about 170 ppm, but does improve the taste quite a bit. (Charcoal mainly reduces organic compounds, not metals, fluorides, etc.) Poland Springs TDS are about 25 ppm. This Home Master TM Undersink Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System reduces TDS to 12 PPM, about 95% lower than the tap, and the water now tastes like...water! Because that's what it is.I was thinking about giving 4 stars due to the initial leak, but it might actually be a normal part of the setup and I may have 'solved' a problem that didn't really exist.It's been a month, and I am very satisfied!I researched Reverse Osmosis systems for a while and decided the Home Master had the features that I wanted. I liked the fact that it was made in the USA and reviews said their customer support was very good and that is true. This was my first system to install and it was pretty straight forward with the written instructions and the videos online. It was a surprise that the unit was smaller and took up less room than I had envisioned which is a plus. I had one call to customer support and the question was answered quickly. The day I was running my last tank cleaning a representative , Eric, called to see if I had any questions and if I was satisfied with the product. You don't get that much anymore so it was appreciated. The water has a great taste and I would highly recommend this system.Ours is the one with the added filter that puts some minerals back into the water. We did not order that one for our kids because our son has had kidney stones in the past. We love ours and have had no complaints from day one except the filter ran out a couple months short from the expected yearly change. We knew that by the taste and smell of the water. This filter DOES NOT have a filter monitor that warns you when the filter is going bad which would be a distinct improvement in MFG. but you can tell pretty quick anyway by taste. Our son was having kidney issues and they have two tots over there that we felt would be better off on this highly filtered pure water than bottled, which contains tons of estrogenic chemicals that are bad for us and worse for our kids. City tap water really IS a chemical cocktail nobody should drink. We installed this on their anniversary and I see them drinking it every time we go there, making kids bottles and my son takes a big bottle of it to work each day. We feel as though we've made an investment in their health. Our bodies are mostly water and the most important ingredient they need each day is quality water. Instead of that new appliance or silly gadget, invest in your health or your childrens future.I installed this filter and the water was great for a while, but then stopped.I called their customer service line and was immediately transferred to a live human who made sure I got a call back from their technicians.The Tech Matthew knew exactly what the issue was with a few simple tests, we found the problem and get a new filter.Will the manager was also excellent and ensured this problem is solved!Thanks all! Great Service!Prior to buying this system I had been looking at RO filters for a couple of years. I am so glad I finally took the plunge, especially with a high quality system such as this, still made in the US, not in China or elsewhere where quality control is harder to monitor.This system comes with decent instructions although I found that I had to read them over very carefully, spread the parts out and match them up and take my time installing it. The manual states that it will take about 45 minutes however it ( probably since I am not a plumber ) took me almost 3 hours, with breaks in between. That's ok, as I learned a lot about the product without rushing the install. If positioned properly, the system does not take much space and you can still use most of the space in the cupboard under the sink for other items.The pressure coming from it is very good with the permeate pump, less water waste, and quick filling of the tank. I have yet to measure the water quality with a tester but will be doing so soon and after comparing the water from my tap to this system I will update my review.Customer support is excellent whether using the chat line or using the phone. Someone always answers ( I had a lot of questions before I bought the unit ) or they will call and get back to you when leaving a response no matter the issue and are very friendly, patient, and helpful. You can tell that they stand by their product. I am very impressed. I feel that I have bought a high quality product and if there are problems I will be taken care of.I bought this for my mom ( and me too for now! ) and will definitely be buying another upon moving to a new place in a couple of years and highly recommend this filter.Great product!Review update Nov 08/2019. I tested my unfiltered drinking water to 51 ppm. Filtered with this RO system it came down to 5 ppm. Excellent! Living with this system now for a number of weeks I have come to appreciate the cleanliness of the water. The taste was somewhat flat at first because there is no alkaline filter on this but I have gotten used to that. I can run my humidifier without any mineral buildup and my espresso maker will now only need to de-calcified ( the water is very hard here in Hamilton, ON ) probably once every 2-3 three months instead of every month. The tank fills up super fast. I am very happy with this system. Highly recommmended!Nice to have filtered water. My husband had some difficulty with the install but we expected it to an extent. It could have been easier though. Flavour is fine. Biggest issue is that it doesn’t get very cold or stay cold. I don’t know if it loses its coldness by sitting in the holding tank or if it isn’t ever cold in the holding tank (like when it enters). We bought an ice machine just to cool off the water especially in the summer. It would be better if there was sufficient insulation to keep the water cold in the tank.This is a awesome productWorks just like it was advertisedHighly recommend
