I often find myself looking for old pictures and film of modern places to see how they've changed and to connect with the time locked in those images. This documentary achieves that with enveloping images and people and their progeny making the time and place come alive. The juxtaposition of the elderly survivors of this adventure with their youthful images connects us to their experiences. I found myself being brought to tears from the nostalgia and recollections of the participants as though I was on their journey along with them.I'm not an obsessed fan of Walt and his creative team per se, but this shows another human side to them presented in a way worthy of their artistry and sense of discovery and creative evolution through adventure.I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in the past, who is an artist, and a student of the connected nature of humanity across generations. What a fascinating story about Walt Disney's group that traveled to South America. No wonder Goofy wears goucho pants and the parrot character is so colorful. The Latin influence on Disney and Walt's group's influence on Latin America! Who knew?Speedy delivery and excellent productThere are a few stories I can point to that change my way of thinking - this is one. I had no idea that Walt and his crew were part of this important world history. It is interesting for better understanding of our past, but also implication for living today and working to build good-will around the world and in our own sphere of influence. This film documents the most difficult time in Walt Disney's life in a fair and highly entertaining way. It chronicles his and a troop of his artists voyage down south of the border and their adventures there looking for story ideas and acting as goodwill ambassadors at the behest of the U.S. government. Meanwhile back in the U.S. the studio is in turmoil trying to resolve whether Disney Studios will be a union shop or remain independent. This film shows some of the wonderful art work generated by an incredibly talent group of artists and how they are inspired by the rich and beautiful cultures of the countries they visit.Excellent travel story.Set and staged as a Reality-Show, but without the negativity. This is a great back-story for 'Saludos Amigos' and 'The Three Caballeros'.Taking in the Cosby & Hope road-trips it is in keeping with the times.Adds some dimension to the people behind the making of Disney's Classics and future stars of animation such as Mary Blair. The family and friends giving first person accounts adds dynamics to what could be dry resuscitation from letters and notes from the time.More like this and `Waking Sleeping Beauty' would be welcome.Incredible film. If you are a fan of Disney you must watch/buy this movie. if not, you will be a fan of Walt after watching this film. Either way this film is educational, inspiring and entertaining. Thanks to the producers for making this special film. You deserve awards and ROI. Please Make more films about Walt's life and all the associated people and stories. This documentary combines details of Walt Disney's trip to pre-WWII South America with animation, interviews, and actual background film. It is a fascinating look into how a good-will tour by Disney and his crew (called "El Groupo") secured a friendship with South America that helped keep them as allies during the War.The colors and rhythms of Latin America are richly produced in cartoon form, which helped Americans view the Latin culture beautifully, perhaps as they had not seen it before. THE THREE CABALLEROS, MAKE MINE MUSIC, FUN & FANCY FREE, MELODY TIME, THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD. Probably best for the more serious Disney fan as I knewall the people from the Disney Studio travelling to South America at the time.I'm always scouring looking for footage and stories about Walt and all thosethat worked at the Disney Studios when Walt was alive and this certainlyfit the bill. Definitely worth adding to a Disney collection.Interesting facts about a difficult time in Disney history. Definately only for very big Disney history type fans.
